Recently I had the privilege of joining Andrew Bernstein on his Legends of Sport podcast. I always tell Andrew he’s the best shooter in NBA history. He just happens to shoot with a camera.
For more than four decades, Andrew has documented our game at the highest level. As the NBA’s longest-tenured league photographer, he has captured generations — from Magic and Michael to Kobe and LeBron. His photos aren’t just images… they are history. They’ve shaped how we remember the biggest moments in basketball.
Two of my all-time favorites:
Michael’s First Title — Pure Emotion
The image of Michael Jordan holding the trophy after his first championship — exhaustion, relief, joy. One frame that tells the entire story of perseverance and arrival.
Kobe — The Mamba Mentality
And then Kobe Bryant — locked in, soaring, completely immersed in competition. Andrew later co-authored
The Mamba Mentality: How I Play with Kobe, which tells you everything about the trust and respect between them.
Legends of Sport is exactly what it sounds like — thoughtful, respectful conversations with the people who built and shaped sports. Andrew has a rare ability to move beyond the headlines and get to the human side of greatness.
Grateful for the conversation.
Grateful for the friendship.
And grateful for the moments Andrew has preserved for all of us who love this game.
